Climber Clubs come to the Hill

0

An exciting new program has kicked off in the 8th grade at Urbana Junior High on the Hill.

All of the 8th graders were introduced to an innovative program called Climber Clubs. With the generous support of the OSU Extension/4-H of Champaign County, all 8th graders will take part in Climber Clubs twice a month. Teachers and 4-H volunteers will join the students in learning fun new skills like cooking, art, outdoor living, and a huge variety of other topics. Upon completion of their projects, each student will have the option to compete in the 2018 Champaign County Fair. These clubs not only offer students a chance to explore new interests, but they allow students time to spend with their teachers in an informal setting while participating in common learning activities.

Climber Clubs will foster teacher/student relationships and support community service. At the kick off event last Friday, students learned the 4-H pledge, completed a diversity exercise, and learned the handy skill of sewing on buttons.
