Armory party to benefit Aviation Museum

Continuing efforts to bring the community together through food and music, Rhythm and Foods Festival founder and local businessman David Bacher is throwing one more party before the end of summer – The Armory “Yard Party.”

As the name suggests, the party will take place on the grounds of the former Ohio National Guard Armory at 1412 N. Main St., Urbana, which Bacher’s trucking company – Noreast Transport – leases from the city.

The free party, which Bacher says will have a “back yard picnic vibe,” will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, when several food trucks open for business.

At 8 p.m., the Southern Drawl Band, a country/southern rock band from Tennessee, will take the stage for a free concert.

In addition to having the option to purchase food, Bacher said, eventgoers can help support the Champaign Aviation Museum and its B-17 “Champaign Lady” and B-25 “Champaign Gal” by purchasing beer, 50/50 raffle tickets or making a monetary donation.

“My father (the late Lt. Col. Raymond Bacher) was a B-17 pilot, so I want to help bring attention to the museum and everything it has going on,” Bacher said.

The Armory “Yard Party” is advertised by a sign on the front lawn of the old Ohio National Guard Armory on North Main Street in Urbana. The party is Friday, Aug. 25.
