A portion of Finch Street was closed Thursday as crews worked on a water main break.
Urbana Water Superintendent Bob Munch said the break was reported around 4 a.m.
Munch said a six-inch valve had a break, but the cause of the break was unknown as of Thursday afternoon. Outside of a few lower than normal water pressure concerns in the local area, Munch said, there were no other known effects on nearby residents or businesses.
He noted the east water tower lost about 18 feet of water, a rough estimate of 300,000 gallons.
A water main break on Finch Street caused quite a show and quite a mess Thursday.
