The Urbana Civil Service Commission approved updating and establishing a patrol officer eligibility list during a meeting this week.

During the Tuesday meeting, Urbana Police Lt. Josh Jacobs presented a previously approved certified eligible list to the commission. He explained from the list the division hired Officer Kerrie Kimpel, had two candidates removed from the list and had two active candidates remaining on the list.

The commission approved the changes to the list, then was presented with an updated certified eligibility list.

Jacobs said the division has 18 officers and two open spots.

The commission approved a certified eligibility list with five candidates. The candidates on the list in order of highest to lowest scores being James L. Dunn, Logan R. Whitaker, Eric Z. Wonn, Bay W. Ireland and Samuel M. Harris.

In other business, Urbana Fire Chief Mark Keller informed the commission that the Urbana Fire Division is up to full staff, but he was made aware of two potential retirements this year and in 2018. He said the division will come before the commission for an entry-level and captain promotion list.
