United Service Day unites Graham with partners

ST. PARIS – Graham Local Schools will participate in a student-led, student-planned United Service Day on April 21.

The district, in partnership with the United Way, Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, and YMCA, will designate an entire day to providing service opportunities for all team members in the Graham district and at sites throughout the county.

Students will be taken to and from their service sites throughout the day. Some students will also be working on beautification projects on campus and within the district. The student teams in each building have been working diligently to secure service opportunities for staff and students, as well as community participants. The service day will provide all stakeholders with the opportunity to give back to their community and county by contributing their supports through acts of service.

“We are so proud of our student leaders for all of their efforts. They have truly put so much thought and effort into making this day meaningful for our district and community partners,” said Director of Student Services Emily Smith.

The district is planning to make this day an annual event and hopes that more county schools will join in growing this day. The district is grateful to area sponsors for helping make this day possible. Without the support of area businesses, community partners, dedicated volunteers, a committed staff, and the best students around, this day would not be possible.

“It is an amazing sight to watch our students come together to plan such a memorable and impactful event. As a district, we are committed to building leaders, and United Service Day is a perfect example of how service learning helps us all support our community and enrich it,” said Graham Superintendent Kirk Koennecke.
