SPRINGFIELD – Clark State Community College and Farmers Equipment have partnered for the second year in an effort to enhance the Precision Agriculture program offered by the College.
Farmers Equipment, located in Urbana, has provided Clark State with a Case IH 240CVT tractor equipped with precision guidance.
“We will use the tractor in the Equipment Maintenance and Precision Agriculture classes,” said Dr. Larry Everett, professor and coordinator of the Precision Agriculture program and director of the Ohio Center for Precision Agriculture for Clark State. “We will also use it this summer as part of the National Science Foundation Grant when we have a workshop for high school teachers to learn more about precision agriculture.”
Everett said students need to have access to state-of-the-art equipment to learn how precision guidance works and what these technological advancements mean to the agriculture profession.
“There is a lot of agriculture in our area, and as a farm equipment company, we want to promote agriculture education,” said Todd Channel, general manager of Farmers Equipment and Clark State alumnus. “The tractor is fully guided with GPS and auto steer; students can learn how it works, operate it and become technicians in the future.”
Farmers Equipment currently employs Clark State graduates and looks to offer more internships and employment after graduation.
“We appreciate working with Clark State,” said Channel. “It’s a good school, and we need a lot of talent in the agriculture businesses.”
