PLAIN CITY – Proposed legislation to adjust the Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV) tax for farmers will be discussed at a meeting April 11.

The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. April 11 at Der Dutchman Restaurant, 445 S. Jefferson (state Route 42), Plain City. It will feature attorney Ted Finnarn, member of Ohio’s Agricultural Advisory Committee of the Division of Tax Equalization, Department of Taxation. The CAUV Advisory Committee advises Ohio’s tax department on CAUV law and the valuations used under that program.

The Ohio Farmers Union is hosting the event. President Joe Logan said the meeting will inform farmers about the history of CAUV and changes to the formula over the years. He said the meeting also will encourage farmers to talk with their legislators about the proposed legislation to adjust the CAUV tax rate to limit its increase.

Logan said that on two of his properties, the CAUV tax has increased 1100 percent since 2009.
