Two people involved in an injury crash Tuesday remained hospitalized Wednesday.

Janis M. Vincent and James E. Vincent, both of Urbana, were listed in good condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, as of Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, the Champaign Countywide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries at South U.S. Route 68 at Hickory Grove Road. The Urbana Fire Division responded along with Champaign County Sheriff’s Office deputies to the location.

A gold 2017 Ford Escape had been traveling southbound on South U.S. Route 68 and entered into the designated middle turn area.

The Ford Escape then proceeded to turn west onto Hickory Grove Road into the path of a northbound black 2000 Mitsubishi SUV. The black Mitsubishi struck the right side of the Ford Escape causing heavy damage to both vehicles.

The Ford Escape was driven by Mrs. Vincent, age 60, and the passenger in the vehicle was her husband, Mr. Vincent, age 63. Both occupants were treated at the scene by Urbana EMS and flown from the scene by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. The driver of the Mitsubishi, Taylor A. Gorr, age 21 of Urbana, was not injured.

Deputies and EMS personnel also responded to a three-vehicle crash just north of the first crash on South U.S. Route 68 at 4:31 p.m. Tuesday.

A gray 2002 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Dustin W. Meadows, age 30, of Cable, was traveling southbound on Route 68 and failed to stop for the slowed traffic – striking a 1996 green Mercury driven by Robert J. Smith, age 74, of Urbana. Smith’s vehicle then struck a black 2014 Ford pick-up driven by William R. David, age 50, of Springfield.

Smith was transported by Urbana EMS to Mercy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies cited Meadows for failure to maintain assured clear distance.
