The second of two people charged in the drug-related death of an Urbana resident pleaded guilty to felony charges on Monday.

Amber R. Voris, 24, pleaded guilty to one count each of reckless homicide, a third degree felony, trafficking in heroin, a fourth degree felony, and aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth degree felony, during a final pretrial hearing. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 10.

Monday’s hearing was a continuation of a final pretrial hearing that started last Thursday.

Voris is the second person within the last week to plead guilty to charges related to the death of Michael H. McConnell.

Jeffery Robison, 30, pleaded guilty to reckless homicide, a third degree felony, aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third degree felony, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth degree felony, and endangering children, a first degree misdemeanor, last Thursday. A sentencing hearing in Robison’s case is also scheduled for April 10.

McConnell, 51, died on Aug. 20, 2016, as the result of an overdose of fentanyl, according to a coroner’s report filed in the Champaign County Common Pleas Court.

Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talebi stated the alleged facts of the case are that Robison, Voris and McConnell were using drugs together. Robison and Voris allegedly went to Springfield to obtain heroin and then came back to Urbana and supplied drugs to McConnell.

Robison and Voris were indicted through secret indictments last month.

As a part of his plea, three counts of trafficking in heroin, two counts each of aggravated trafficking in drugs and one count of involuntary manslaughter were dismissed against Robison.

As part of her plea, one count each of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated trafficking in drugs were dismissed. A motion to modify her bond was denied during Monday’s hearing and both Voris and Robison remained in custody at the Tri-County Regional Jail according to the jail’s website.
