NORTH LEWISBURG – Triad Local Schools’ board approved a union contract change allowing classified employees to donate sick leave time to a fellow worker.
The board unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) Local #693 allowing for sick leave donation for bus driver Dawn Alexander, whose sick leave has run out. The MOU will automatically expire June 30, 2016.
Superintendent Chris Piper said a provision in the union contract allows this, that it is a matter of filling out the form associated with the leave. It is not the first time the district has offered this to an employee; Piper said it has been offered for teachers at the district.
The school board approved bowling as a Triad-sponsored sport at the high school. Piper said a couple of students want to compete and, with this approval, they will be able to compete individually in the Ohio High School Athletic Association tournaments in the 2015-16 school year. The bowling program will be managed by volunteer coaches Shari Dixon and Addie Dixon.
The school board also re-appointed former board member Matt McConnell to fill the seat he held previously. McConnell was not on the November school board ballot due to a ballot signature error on his petitions. He said previously he hoped the board would consider reappointing him to the board.
In other action, the board:
•Accepted the resignation of custodian Phillip Paxman, effective Jan. 1, 2016.
•Approved hiring 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach Ivana Nicole Simonelli and Weightlifting (1/3) Gary Davis, both at Step 0, for the 2015-16 school year.
•Approved hiring afterschool tutor Meredith Ford for the 2015-16 school year.
