WEST LIBERTY – Two Adriel students led local law enforcement on a high speed chase through Champaign County this week.

On Monday at 2:30 a.m., officers from the West Liberty Police Department responded to the Adriel Campus, 414 N. Detroit St., on the report of an altercation between two female juveniles and a staff member.

West Liberty Police Chief Shane Oelker stated an officer met with a staff member who informed the officer that she was not injured but the two females had gained access to her office keys as she exited the office area.

The staff member stated that once the juveniles accessed her office keys they were able to obtain her vehicle keys. She stated the juveniles fled out of the building and left the parking lot in her car, a 2014 maroon Chevrolet Cruze.

At 2:43 a.m., the Champaign Countywide Communication Center received word from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and West Liberty Police in reference to the stolen vehicle.

Champaign County deputies were in the area of U.S. Route 68 just north of state Route 296 and observed the stolen vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. 68. Deputies activated their emergency lights and sirens and attempted to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle sped up to 80 miles per hour approaching the city of Urbana.

Deputies slowed their speed as they approached the city. The vehicle continued south through the city on U.S. Highway 68 at speeds of 70 miles per hour to 90 miles per hour.

Deputies were still in pursuit when the vehicle turned onto South state Route 72 and headed toward Springfield at speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Deputies were joined by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Division. Champaign County deputies left the pursuit in Springfield.

Oelker noted Tuesday police believe the juveniles were headed to the Dayton area.

The juveniles are described as black females, ages 15 and 16. Oelker added charges are pending and the case remains under investigation and the names of the teens are being held until the warrants are filed with the Logan County Juvenile Court.

As of Tuesday, the two juveniles remained missing and the stolen vehicle had not been recovered.
