The Gloria Theatre’s new 4K digital projector, screen and 7.1 Dolby surround sound system will perform to their full advantage Christmas weekend for seven $5 showings of the recently released Marvel Studios production, “Doctor Strange,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Screenings start on Friday, December 23 at 7:30 p.m. On Christmas Day and Monday, December 26 the movie will be shown three times each, 2, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Admission for all shows is just $5 per person. Proceeds will support ongoing renovation of the theater.

On Christmas Day, the theater will celebrate its 75th anniversary. Urbana industrialist and philanthropist Warren Grimes opened the theater on Christmas Day 1941 as a gift to the community. The Grimes Foundation contributed a matching grant of $50,000, in memory of Grimes, to help purchase the new projection system with the support of community members who provided matching gifts.
