West Liberty-Salem High School’s Seniors of the Month of December are Zechariah Gluckle and Ashley Rabenstein. Here are their comments.

Zechariah Gluckle

PARENTS: James & Aimee Gluckle

School Activities and Awards: I am involved in quick recall, the baseball team, run the camera for the baseball team, and am part of the NHS. I also was part of stage crew for drama and plan on helping with the musical in March.

If I were principal for a day: If I were principal for a day I would definitely make changes to the cafeteria food. While the selections have improved this year, I hope there will be more added in the future.

Favorite school memory: I’d say just last year when Mrs. Seymour said my scratch board was one of the best she’s ever seen. I know it’s simple, but man does it feel good when someone tells you you’re good at something you love to do.

People who have been an inspiration to me include: my mom

Because: She has been through more struggles in her life than anyone I’ve ever seen and it amazes me how she finds a way to make it through every day with a smile.

Lately, I have been reading: The last thing I read was Lord of the Flies for Mr. Lynxwiler, but I was hooked on the Divergent series for a while.

My advice to parents: Don’t over shelter your kids. While it’s understandable to want keep them safe, not letting them explore will cause the real world to smack them in the face when the time comes for them to make their own path through the world.

My biggest regret: Taking psychology. It was a fun class but wow did I struggle. And worse I discovered I don’t need that credit to graduate with honors like I thought.

Next year I will be: Heading off to college and hopefully not stressing out about every little thing like I do in high school.

Ashley Rabenstein

PARENTS: Steve and Sandy Rabenstein

Awards: 1st team OHC (soccer), 2nd team all Miami Valley (soccer), White Tiger Award, Defensive MVP two years in a row (soccer), above 3.75 honor role, All American Choir award.

If I were principal for a day: I would cancel school.

Favorite school memory: My senior soccer season when we beat Milton Union in overtime to claim the sectional title.

People who have been an inspiration to me include: My amazing Family

Because: No one makes me laugh harder, and encourages me in my faith more than them.

Lately, I have been reading: The Book of Isaiah.

My advice to parents: Always make time for Ice Cream.

My biggest regret: Lowering the Tripod.

Next year I will be attending: Otterbein University for Nursing and playing Soccer.
