MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools will get new LED lights all around campus, the school board decided Monday.

The board approved the purchase of 4,020 LED tube lights from All-Phase Electric Supply Co. for $31,717.80 at its Monday meeting. The lights will be installed throughout the schools, Treasurer Scott Maruniak said.

LED lights tend to last longer than fluorescents and other types of lighting, and though they also cost more, they use less energy.

“As we change out the bulbs, we will also see a significant savings in our energy usage,” he said.

The lights qualify for a rebate from Dayton Power & Light, Maruniak added, potentially saving even more money over the long run.

In other action the board:

•Approved overnight trips for the high school wrestling team for various matches in the 2016-17 season, which include Frickers Duals in Defiance Dec. 16-17; Brecksville High School Dec. 29-30; War Memorial in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jan 6-7; Maumee Bay Classic in Maumee Jan. 13-14; LCC Thunderbird Classic in Lima Jan. 27-28; District Competitions March 3-4; and the state Wrestling Tournament in Columbus March 9-11.

•Approved hiring Assistant High School Wrestling Coach (50 percent) Steve Stroud and MS Wrestling Head Coach Cory Hitchcock, for the 2016-17 school year.
