Two drivers were transported from the scene of an injury crash Tuesday afternoon, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:13 p.m. Tuesday, Champaign Countywide Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a two-vehicle head-on crash occurring in the area of 1272 E. Hickory Grove Road.

Urbana Fire and EMS responded along with Champaign County deputies.

They found that a 2015 gray Mazda Hatchback had received extensive head-on damage. This vehicle was driven by Carol L. Casperson, 67, of Urbana and had collided with a 2016 black Honda SUV driven by Kurt W. Hanson, 46, of Springfield.

An investigation at the scene revealed Casperson was traveling eastbound on East Hickory Grove Road, lost control and hit Hanson’s vehicle.

Urbana EMS transported Casperson to Mercy Memorial Hospital. Then she was transported to Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Hanson was transported by Urbana EMS to Mercy Memorial Hospital.

The conditions of both drivers were unavailable at press time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
