Driver extricated from vehicle in two-vehicle crash

A driver was transported to a hospital via CareFlight following a two-vehicle crash in Jackson Township Monday morning.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Kristina O. Watters, 19, of Troy, was listed in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, after being extricated from a 2008 black Saturn Aura.

The countywide communication center received a 911 call at 6:04 a.m. in reference to a two-vehicle crash at South state Route 235 at state Route 55. Sheriff’s deputies along with Christiansburg Fire and EMS and JSP Fire and EMS responded to the scene.

A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed a 2007 blue Honda CRV driven by Dayna A. Cocca and also carrying two children, was traveling southbound on South state Route 235. Watters was traveling eastbound on state Route 55 and reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign located at this intersection.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and the occupants in Cocca’s vehicle were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The crash remained under investigation as of Monday afternoon.
