Editor’s note: This is one in a series of six profiles of homes on the Cancer Association of Champaign County’s annual fund-raiser tour. One home is being featured each day in the Urbana Daily Citizen during the week leading up to the tour.
The Lincoln Place home of Scott and Amy Brinker will highlight historic features and the antiques the family loves.
The home at 222 Lincoln Place will be on this year’s Cancer Association of Champaign County Candlelight Tour of Homes. The home is a 1916 American Foursquare home built by Mr. and Mrs. I.M. Dye. The foursquare style was considered a “rebellion” against the ornate Victorian style, Amy Brinker said. The Brinkers are the ninth owners of the home and bought it in 2013. It was featured in the 2012 tour also, when owned by Mr. and Mrs. Simon Sweet.
The Brinkers love antiques and cherish their religious faith, and the decorations on display in the home will reflect that, Brinker said. Some of the antiques featured include a treadle sewing machine, a 1920s Victrola and a 1900s era Edison Home Phonograph.
Some of the improvements to the home, made by past owners and the Brinkers, include the full bathroom and a family room. Santa will be at the Brinker home for the tour.
The Brinkers are on the tour in honor of Amy’s father, William, a breast cancer survivor. There will be a male breast survivor quilt, made by William’s friend, on display in the family room during the tour.
The Candlelight Tour of Homes will be 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
