WEST LIBERTY – A driver was cited for a red light violation following an injury crash early Tuesday morning.

According to information provided by Chief Shane Oelker, the West Liberty Police Department responded to an injury crash at the intersection of Detroit Street and Baird Street at 4:48 a.m.

Oelker said an officer was refueling his patrol vehicle when he witnessed a red 1996 Plymouth Neon operated by Jimmy Weiss, 39, of West Mansfield, fail to stop for a red light while traveling southbound on Detroit Street.

Weiss’ vehicle continued through the intersection and was struck by a 2011 black Jeep Compass operated by Natalie Stimmel, 34, of West Liberty, who was traveling westbound. Her vehicle struck the driver’s side of Weiss’ vehicle.

The crash caused disabling damage to Weiss’ vehicle and it was towed from the scene while Stimmel’s vehicle sustained minor damage.

Weiss was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, by Macochee EMS and was issued a citation for a red light violation.
