A man charged with shooting a child with an airsoft BB gun pleaded guilty to assault last week.

According to the Champaign County Municipal Court’s website, Chad L. King Jr., 19, pleaded guilty to a first degree misdemeanor assault charge on Friday. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 9.

On Aug. 31, 4-year-old Maci Clay was shot.

A trial date in the case was previously scheduled for Nov. 17 and Friday’s hearing was originally scheduled as a motion hearing.

Conditions of bond the court previously set included that King must live at his Columbus address, observe a curfew of 9 p.m. and have no contact with the victim or the victim’s residence.
