The second of two co-defendants involved in robbing a local bank earlier this year pleaded guilty to four charges Monday.

Ryan H. Seibert, 22, of Springfield, pleaded guilty to a fifth degree felony theft charge, a third degree felony robbery charge, a fourth degree felony receiving stolen property charge and a new felony charge in connection to crimes committed against Security National Bank, 828 Scioto St.

On March 5, Seibert reportedly approached bank employees wearing a stocking over his face and demanded they turn over a bag they were carrying near the outside ATM. An employee threw the bag to the ground and Seibert retrieved the bag.

Seibert was able to flee the area with the help of co-defendant Michaela M. Anderson, 19, of Urbana, who was the getaway driver following the crime. Anderson admitted on Nov. 20 that the co-defendants fled to Columbus, West Virginia and Florida.

She pleaded guilty to a fourth degree felony of attempted robbery on Nov. 20 and is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 18.

The co-defendants were taken into custody on Sept. 23. Prior to the arrests, Urbana police investigators spent hundreds of hours investigating the case including Urbana officers going to Florida twice to follow leads.

The plea resolution in Seibert’s case comes after the court was informed on Nov. 19 that no plea resolution had been reached and a jury trial was scheduled to start on Dec. 15.

The theft charge Seibert pleaded guilty to Monday stems from conduct that occurred on or about March 1, 2013, to March 31, 2013.

A court statement filed in the Champaign County Municipal Court states Seibert was a former teller at the bank who was fired for stealing funds. In March 2014, bank officials learned through audits and interviews that Seibert stole $3,208.84 while working there and deposited some of the stolen money into his own accounts.

In addition to the three other felony charges, Seibert also pleaded guilty to a third degree felony tampering with evidence charge Monday, which was introduced through a bill of information. Charges of theft, aggravated robbery and grand theft were dismissed.

A sentencing hearing for Seibert is scheduled for Dec. 29. Champaign County Common Pleas Court Judge Nick Selvaggio informed Seibert that he faces a potential maximum consecutive sentence of 102 months in prison and $27,500 fine.
