Caring Kitchen receives renovation grant

The Caring Kitchen is one of two Ohio emergency shelters to receive grants from the Ohio Development Services Agency for facility improvements. The grants are part of the Emergency Solutions Target of Opportunity Program.

The Champaign County shelter received a $57,500 grant to renovate kitchen and restrooms, replace deteriorated floors, ceilings, doors and drywall. The interior will be repainted.

The Caring Kitchen operates a 22-bed emergency shelter serving homeless individuals and families in the county. The Caring Kitchen will serve approximately 177 Ohioans.

Lima’s Samaritan House Inc. received a $14,700 grant to replace 26 and repair six windows. The facility operates a 21-bed emergency shelter serving single homeless women and women with children in Allen County. The agency will serve approximately 545 Ohioans.

“We work with local communities to make sure they have the resources they need to help our most vulnerable residents,” said David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency.

The Ohio Housing Trust Fund supports a wide range of housing activities including housing development, emergency home repair, handicapped accessibility modifications, and services related to housing and homelessness.
