Long-time Urbana City Schools board member Warren Stevens, 75, was killed in a three-vehicle accident Wednesday at 6:27 p.m. at the intersection of North Ludlow and Kanagy roads.

Three others were transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine and their conditions were unknown at press time.

Stevens, who was vice-president of the Urbana City Schools board, was also a board member at Ohio Hi-Point and the Ohio School Boards Association and was the Southwest Region president-elect for OSBA.

He recently returned from Washington, D.C., where he was lobbying on behalf of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.

“Warren was a pleasure to work with and was the consummate professional,” said Urbana City Schools Superintendent Charles Thiel. “He was always doing things that benefited the community, and he was so proud of the opportunity Urbana has to build new schools. He will be tremendously missed.”

Stevens was traveling alone on school board business in a 2014 Honda Accord.

Also involved in the accident were two other vehicles.

Tracy Leighty, 29, of Mount Gilead was driving a Dodge 2500 pickup truck on Ludlow Road. Kristen Reed, 44, of St. Paris was driving a Ford Expedition with passenger Pauline Reed, 67, of St. Paris.

The accident remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
