UHS Alumni Band organizing for Homecoming

The Urbana High School Alumni Band is making plans for its annual homecoming reunion. Alumni of all ages who were members of the UHS Marching Band are invited to participate in a variety of activities, including the homecoming parade and halftime show at the homecoming football game.

The homecoming parade is Thursday, Oct. 6. Meet in the driveway behind the school at 6 p.m. Bring your instrument and a folding chair to ride the float.

The football game is Friday, Oct. 7. Alumni are invited to warm up with the band at 6:30 p.m. in the band room, then gather just before halftime to take the field. For halftime, the combined UHS Marching Band, UJHS Band, and UHS Alumni Band will perform an OSU-themed show featuring “Hang On Sloopy” and “Script Ohio.”

Those interested in participating in halftime are required to RSVP or attend a rehearsal. Rehearsals will be with the UHS and UJHS bands on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Thursday, Oct. 6, from 2:50 to 4 p.m. on the practice field at East Elementary.

“We have been seeing some new faces participating in the alumni band during the last couple of years, and we hope to see that trend continue,” said Matthew Smith (tuba ’00), who organizes UHS Alumni Band activities, along with Angelika (Roberts) Paxman (trumpet ’84). “We hope to keep this tradition alive for many years to come, and we hope to see participation grow each year,” he added.

Music is available through the UHS Band office, or on the UHS Alumni Band Facebook page. Those participating are asked to wear blue jeans and school colors to both the parade and game.
