Mburg board approves staff actions

MECHANICSBURG – The Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools board approved substitutes and supplemental contracts at its Monday meeting.

The board approved hiring substitutes for cooks, secretaries, teachers and bus aides. The board also approved teacher mentors, high school student council co-advisers and a quiz bowl adviser.

The district is getting closer to selecting an architect firm that will help it with future projects. The district has been considering capital projects such as a sports complex and repaving parking lots, and having an “architect of record” will make that simpler, school officials say. The board has an architect review committee. Treasurer Scott Maruniak said he hopes to have two firms give presentations at the next board meeting.

In other action, the board:

•Approved travel and overnight stays for the FFA to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 19-22.

•Approved the maternity leave of absence for teacher Cortney Louge.
