Homeschool History Program

A Day in the Life at the Hertzler House – Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

George Rogers Clark Park, Hertzler House

Registration Fee: $10/child, space is limited to 10 participants.

Tour the historic Hertzler House, watch how food was cooked and get a sample, make a craft, and experience what life was like in the mid-19th century. Pre-registration is required.

Thursday Morning Hike

Every Thursday at 9 a.m.

George Rogers Clark Park, 930 South Tecumseh Road

Join Park District Volunteers each Thursday morning to enjoy a walk through the woods at George Rogers Clark Park. This group has been exploring the park weekly for over 10 years, yet each week brings a new discovery! Meet at the parking lot below the dam and experience the beauty and camaraderie found in the outdoors.

Coyote Campfire Stories

Friday, Nov. 6, 7-8:30 p.m.

A-frame shelter across from the lake

Join us for a night of Native American stories about one of the most infamous creatures in Ohio, the coyote. Sit around the fire and listen to stories told by a Shawnee Indian and president of the Ohio Native Ancestral Association. Learn the facts about the natural history of coyotes and dispel the myths. Then, enjoy some s’mores by the fire. This is a joint program of the Clark County Park District and National Trail Parks and Recreation District. Pre-registration is required.

Fireside History Chat

Teddy Roosevelt – Tuesday, Nov. 10, 7-8 p.m.

At age 42, Teddy Roosevelt became the youngest man to assume the U.S. presidency after President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901. He won a second term in 1904. Known for his anti-monopoly policies and ecological conservationism, Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize for his part in ending the Russo-Japanese War.

Larry Marple, local educator and historian, will present a biographical sketch of the Roosevelts focusing on Teddy’s efforts for conservation and Mrs. Roosevelt’s efforts toward historic preservation. Pre-registration is required.

Stargaze

Tuesday, Nov. 17, 8-10 p.m.

Leonids meteor shower

Davidson Interpretive Center, 5638 Lower Valley Pike

Join us for an evening under the stars as we explore the mysteries of the night sky. Enjoy a view like never before with our 14 inch telescope that even allows you to see the rings of Saturn on a good night. Bring something to sit on and dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 40 participants.

Caterpillar Club Preschool Program

Terrific Turkeys – Tuesday, Nov. 24, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

George Rogers Clark Park

Learn about wild turkeys and their interesting calls, then make one to take home. Pre-registration is required and limited to 15 preschoolers.
