The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated the 125th anniversary of its founding with a day of service on Oct. 11. The Urbana Chapter participated by honoring two World War II veterans, U.S. Navy Wave Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class Bernice Branstiter and U.S. Army Infantry Private 1st Class Thomas Rogers, members of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Urbana. They were thanked for their service with certificates, decorated cakes and gifts.

The program was planned by Theisa Dohner, a member of Messiah Lutheran and the Urbana DAR Chapter. Both veterans had displays of memorabilia from their days in the service, including Bernice’s uniform and Tom’s scrapbooks and Purple Heart. DAR and church members all greatly enjoyed honoring these two outstanding veterans of WWII after the Sunday service at Messiah Lutheran Church.
