New truck to make local recycling easier

0

The North Central Ohio Solid Waste District and Union Recyclers announced the purchase of a new recycling truck for use at mobile recycling access sites in Champaign, Hardin, Madison and Union counties. The truck, which replaces an outdated box truck, was purchased with funds from the solid waste district and a Community Development Grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Cost of the truck was $115,450.

Union Recyclers in 2012 updated its facility to accept single-stream recycling, which makes recycling easier for residents by allowing them to mix paper, #1 & #2 plastic bottles, metal cans and glass bottles/jars together. The recyclables are then sorted by workers and equipment at the Union Recyclers facility.

The new truck is a state-of-the-art compactor-style truck that has more capacity than the old box truck and requires less handling of the recyclables by the workers.

Walter Wallace, president of Walter Work Force, LLC, which operates Union Recyclers, stated, “This new recycling truck will allow us to collect the recyclables in a more efficient way, which will save time and allow us to extend hours at certain access sites.”
