Graham board adopts communication guidelines

ST. PARIS – Graham Local Schools board now has code of conduct and belief statements to guide its members.

The statements were approved at the Aug. 8 board meeting.

The statements were developed as part of the district’s strategic plan, which was adopted at the July board meeting. Both statements are “action steps” needed to meet a goal of the plan, to improve both internal and external communication, Superintendent Kirk Koennecke said.

“Our board members believe communicating involves modeling professional governance behaviors and having team expectations in place for the health of our organization. I applaud them for taking time to reflect on what good governance means, and putting these values in place for the public to see,” he said.

The statements are new to the board, Koennecke said.

The board also approved a strategic communication plan at its meeting. The plan is part of another goal in the overall strategic plan, to communicate more effectively with district stakeholders, Koennecke said.

“The communication plan provides a philosophy for the public to see that we are going to be proactive and intentional about sharing our story at Graham, celebrating our progress, and connecting with community,” he said.

Koennecke added the statements and new communications plan are already helping the district meet objectives in the overall strategic plan.
