The Mechanicsburg FFA Chapter won the County rural soil judging contest on Sept. 18, 2015. On this team was Jacob McDonald, Miranda Lauchard, Alex Walton and Kylie Owen. The team will go on to districts, which was Sept. 29, 2015. The rural team placed ninth. The purpose of rural soil judging is to educate members how to evaluate the soil and land use for rural applications. Rural teams are required to evaluate each pit site for agricultural purposes and determine the slope, landform, flooding hazard, soil stability, soil texture, depth to seasonal high water table and depth to bedrock. The county contest was held outside of Mechanicsburg, Ohio. The district contest was held in Mount Gilead, Ohio.

On Sept. 30, 2015, a group of FFA members went to the Ohio FFA Legislative Leadership Conference. At this conference, the FFA members got to role play being lobbyist and trying to persuade legislators to pass a bill. The Mechanicsburg and Urbana FFA members also got meet Nino Vitale, our representative. There were also several speeches that we got to hear, such as Director David Daniels, ODA and Director James Zehringer, ODNR. This is held at the statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. FFA members also got to tour the statehouse; seeing the law library and various offices of congressmen and women.

On Oct. 13, 2015 the Mechanicsburg FFA participated in the Job Interview CDE. The purpose of the job interview CDE is designed for FFA members to practice and demonstrate the skills needed in seeking employment in all areas of agriculture. Each part of this event simulates real world experiences that students will have when seeking employment in the future. Mechanicsburg came out of the contest with 3 of the 5 Division Champions. Ashley Dailey won the Senior division, Kirsten Lewis won the Sophomore and Nate Violet won the Freshman. These three, along with Emily Wilson and harley Ferguson, will be advancing to the Sub District competition on Oct. 22 at Northeastern High School.
