Butterfly Hunt and Count, Wednesday, Aug. 10, 24 and 31, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Leadingham Prairie, corner of Spangler and Union Road, Medway
Join us on our butterfly counts in the prairie. We will see everything from the tiny Eastern Tailed Blue, to the Silver-Spotted Skipper and the infamous Monarch. Over 40 species of butterflies have been spotted here! Please dress for the hot weather, but wear long sleeves, long pants, a hat and sturdy shoes. A water bottle is a must! Children (ages 7+) are invited and encouraged to attend. This is weather permitting. Check out our Facebook page for updates.

Same program with a new name! Join Park District Volunteers each Thursday morning to enjoy a walk through the woods at George Rogers Clark Park. This group has been exploring the park weekly for over 10 years, yet each week brings a new discovery! Meet at the parking lot below the dam and experience the beauty and camaraderie found in the outdoors.
Micro Dragon Hunt, Friday, Aug. 5, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Hosterman Lake, George Rogers Clark Park
Dr. Amber Burgett, Assistant Professor of Biology with Wittenberg University, will lead a hike to learn about Ohio’s dragons – the dragonflies. Search for “dragons” at the lake and see how many YOU can find. Learn all about the life cycle of the dragonfly by catching adults in nets and scooping up larvae in the water. Wear a hat, sunscreen and bring water. Waders are recommended. (Be prepared to get a bit wet!)
Hertzler House Tours, Sundays, June 5 – Aug. 28, 1:00 – 3:00 PM

Each Sunday, there is the opportunity to tour the historic Daniel Hertzler House Museum. Get a hint of what it was like to live in the 1850’s; how they cooked, made clothes and entertained themselves. Please join us on a Sunday this summer. Consider making a donation to help the Park District take care of this historic gem.
Battle of Peckuwe Ceremony, Sunday, Aug. 7, 1:00 pm
George Rogers Clark Park

Join the George Rogers Clark Heritage Association and First Mad River Light Artillery to learn some history as we commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Peckuwe. This battle, which took place at this site on August 8, 1780, was fought between the troops of George Rogers Clark and the British-allied Shawnee Indians. During this ceremony, we will remember the lives lost in that battle.
Wild at Night: Presentation and Stargaze, Friday, Aug. 12
National Trail Parks and Recreation District – 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Davidson Interpretive Center – 10:00 PM – 12:30 AM
Start your “wild” night off with an informative program on nocturnal creatures at National Trail Parks and Recreation District. Then, join the Clark County Park District at 10:00 PM for an evening under the stars as we explore the mysteries of the night sky. Enjoy a view like never before with our 14 inch telescope that even allows you to see the rings of Saturn. Bring something to sit on and dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. (As always, you do not have to stay for the entire stargaze! Come and go anytime in that time frame.)
Prairie Prowl, Friday, Aug. 19, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Join Partners for Fish and Wildlife biologist, Donnie Knight, and discover the sights and sounds of the prairie. Enjoy the prairie plants in bloom and see what animals call the prairie home. Things to bring: binoculars, bug repellent, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Be sure to wear a long sleeved shirt, long pants and old shoes. Waders are recommended.
Night Fishing, Friday, Aug. 26, 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Hosterman Lake, George Rogers Clark Park
Join the Ranger Patrol Division for a fun, family night of fishing. Listen to the sounds of the night, visit with family and friends and catch some fish. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to fish Hosterman Lake at night! Bring your own fishing pole, bait, tackle, insect repellent and lantern or flashlight. Pack some snacks and have a night picnic. (Remember: No alcoholic beverages are allowed.) Please place all trash in the trash cans before you leave that night. Please call the Clark County Park District at 937-882-6000 to register by Wednesday, August 24 or register online at www.clarkcountyparks.org under Program Registration.
