Asphalt repairs could be coming for parts of East U.S. Route 36 in Urbana if City Council approves the measure during its meeting at 7 p.m. today in municipal court chambers.

The request for road work is being brought to council by city administration, which is recommending the approval of a purchase order to Freishler Paving Inc. in the amount of $27,675 for asphalt seam repairs in the north lane of East U.S. Route 36 and repairs to several sunken areas in the south lane near Monro Muffler and the Champaign County library.

Also during the meeting, council will be presented with several administration requests to increase purchase orders previously approved. Two of these items scheduled to be voted on involve purchase orders to Blaugrund, Hebert, Kessler and Miller. One measure seeks to increase a previous purchase order in the amount of $2,900 for employment law support by $7,000, while the other seeks to increase a previous purchase order in the amount of $7,000 for miscellaneous legals services by $8,000.

Council will also be asked to increase a purchase order to Frost Brown Todd LLC, which was approved on Jan. 13 for $15,000, by $18,000 for the 2015 Q3 Brownfield legal services.

In other business:

•An ordinance to amend the city’s official zoning map by rezoning the 2.052 acres (Dollar Tree property) annexed into the city on Sept. 8 will undergo a first reading.

•Council will hear the third and final readings of three resolutions involving pavement work on several roadways just outside city limits.

The three resolutions call for preliminary approval between the city and the Ohio Department of Transportation for pavement overlay of the following areas: U.S. Route 36 from Dugan Road to Ludlow Road (scheduled for 2020), U.S. Route 36 from the county line between Champaign and Miami counties to the western corporation limit of Urbana (scheduled for 2017), state Route 29 from the city’s eastern corporation limit to state Route 56, and state Route 54 from Hickory Grove Road to the city’s southern corporation limit near Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
