Storage unit fire under investigation

The cause of a large structure fire Thursday remains under investigation by the Urbana Fire Division.

Urbana Fire Chief Mark Keller said Friday that crews were called to 121 James Ave. at 2:45 p.m. on a report of a vehicle on fire inside a building. He said firefighters found half of the building in flames while the other half had heavy smoke coming from it.

Keller said the origin of the fire is believed to have been on the eastern side of the building. While the cause of the fire is under investigation, Keller said the division does not suspect this was an arson fire.

No damage estimate was given, but Keller said the building is a total loss.

Along with the Urbana Fire Division, the Mechanicsburg Fire Department, JSP Fire District, Adams Township-Rosewood Fire Department and Moorefield Township Fire Department responded to the scene. Keller said crews remained on the scene until around 10:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

Keller said two firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries in the fire. He noted they were treated and released from Mercy Memorial Hospital.
