Coroner: Man crushed to death when Jeep falls on him

WAYNE TWP. – Local first-responders, the county coroner and law enforcement were called to an incident involving a 49-year-old man who was crushed by a Jeep that fell on him at approximately 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to Champaign County Coroner Dr. Joshua Richards, the man was under the vehicle when it fell off of the jack stands he was using. He was trapped under the vehicle and died as a result of asphyxiation/crush injury to his chest. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of a family member. His wife heard the Jeep fall and called it into the county dispatch. She attempted to jack the vehicle up to get it off of him.

Richards said no autopsy was requested as the cause of death was evident.

The incident occurred in the 3000 block of Kennard-Kingscreek Road northeast of Urbana.

JACKSON TWP. – At 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, St. Paris area first responders were called to the 9000 block of Conrad Road when a male fell from a tree and could not move. Johnson-St. Paris EMS confirmed transport via ground ambulance of the man who fell, but were not able or permitted to release further details of his identity or where he was transported.
