MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools’ board joined other school districts in the county by banning the use of drones at sports events.

The school board approved a policy drafted by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to prohibit the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, also known as drones, at district-sponsored sports events, unless otherwise approved by school administrators. Other districts in the county, including Triad, passed similar board policies.

The policy was approved at the board’s Sept. 14 meeting.

The board also approved hiring High School Volleyball Assistant Coach Ryan Beeson, Middle School Football Assistant Coach Kyle Wilhelm and High School Girls Basketball Head Coach Christie Dodane for the current school year.

In other action, the board:

•Accepted $70.50 in donations from the PTO from a shoe recycling fundraiser for the eighth grade Washington, D.C. trip.

•Approved hiring Fall Activities Director/Site Manager Christie Dodane, Jr. Class Advisor (1/3 time) Susan Bell, Jr. Class Advisor (1/3 time) Maggie Harris, all for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved a leave of absence for bus driver Deborah Nelson.
