An elusive water main break forced the closure of most lanes of traffic at the intersection of Scioto Street and Jefferson Avenue Wednesday morning. City of Urbana Water Superintendent Robert Munch reported it was repaired about 5 p.m. and that a boil-water notice would not be needed.
He said the break was detected at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Urbana police rerouted traffic, closing down all but one lane of traffic on Scioto and Jefferson.
By noon, water officials were continuing to dig up the intersection. Munch said there are a number of water mains under that intersection, so finding the specific one leaking was difficult.
At around 3 p.m., water department employees opened up more of the street on the south end in the hope of finding the leak.
