The natural environment will take center stage during Urbana City Council’s 6 p.m. meeting today in municipal court chambers as city administration seeks approval to move forward with the yearly tree maintenance schedule as well as phase two of the floodplain study of Dugan Run (Ditch).
To carry out the plans outlined in the city’s 2016 Tree Maintenance Program, which includes the removal of 11 trees and the grinding of 15 stumps, council will be asked to sign off on a purchase order in the amount of $17,465 to Tree Care Inc.
If approved, the areas throughout the city where trees will be removed and stumps ground include the following addresses: 546 S. Main St., 1052 S. Main St., 601 Scioto St., 565 E. Church St., 403 E. Church St., 407 E. Church St., 222 Lincoln Place, 550 Boyce St. and 626 Boyce St. Stumps are also scheduled to be ground at 546 and 567 Boyce St.
As for the completion of phase two of the floodplain study of Dugan Run (Ditch), administration will recommend council authorize Director of Administration Kerry Brugger to modify the existing contract with EMH&T, of Columbus, by incorporating additional engineering services in the amount of $44,500.
Phase two of the project involves revising the hydraulic and hydrologic analyses of the ditch.
The administrative item notes phase one of the project, which involved data collection, has been completed. The third and final phase of the project is anticipated to take place in an upcoming budget year.
In a separate matter, council’s approval is being sought on a purchase order to EJP in the amount of $40,000 for the purchase of various maintenance supplies for the Water Division.
Legislative measures
A resolution in support of the creation of a county land bank or land reutilization corporation in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) will undergo a second reading.
If approved, the ceremonial measure would be sent to the Champaign County Commission, which has the authority to form a county land bank to help facilitate reutilization of vacant, nonproductive lands within the county.
First readings are scheduled to be heard on the following measures:
•A resolution authorizing Brugger to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation’s annual winter road salt bid in accordance with the ORC cooperative purchasing program.
•A resolution confirming the appointments of six local individuals to the newly formed Oak Dale Cemetery Board.
