Organizing the 9th annual Simon Kenton Chili Cook off Festival/Hoopla Parade on Sept. 26 requires months of prep work. Meeting monthly since March 11, the committee recently began weekly meetings. Each year the group strives to “change it up a bit” and this year the Urbana Fire Division will sound sirens to announce it’s time to start cooking! The Dunk Tank being filled by the UFD is a new feature for 2015 and is sure to draw a lot of customers as everyone loves the chance to “dunk’ their favorite (or not so favorite) person. In response to the request for wine, Sandy Loffing, chairman of the wine/beer garden, has added two wine selections to the many selections of beers offered. The deadline to register as a “cooker,” enter the Hoopla Parade or request vendor space is Sept. 15. Visit www.chilicookoffofurbana.com for details. From left in front are committee members Jeramiah Stocksdale, Alyssa Dunham, Vince Gonzalez, Bill Bean, Beth Adair, Amy Knotts, Sandy Gonzalez, Sandy Loffing, Mary Collie. From left in back are committee members Audra Bean, Jeff Heiberger and Linda Monroe. Absent members are Amy Armstrong, Taylor Armstrong, Dwight Paul and Shannon Dee Ann Spence.
