CRSI invites all to annual One Stop Health Fair

Mark your calendars because it’s time once again for CRSI’s eighth annual One Stop Health Fair, coming Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. The CRSI event is a free community service and is open to the public.

Free information will be abundant on topics benefiting the whole family. The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office will also be on hand again this year with its Ident-A-Kid program, and the Urbana Fire Division will demonstrate car seats and enroll those not already signed up for Code Red notifications. New this year will be the opportunity to tour the Urbana High School “Climber Café” summer lunch bus that provided free hot meals to area youths this summer.

There are plenty of opportunities lined up for free screenings and evaluations such as health assessments, visual and glaucoma, blood pressure, glucose, body fat, dental, foot checks, Rossiter stretching, spinal screening, sleep screening, bone density and much more. In the past, the PSA blood test for men was offered for a small fee, but this year it is being offered by Springfield Urology through a grant from the Champaign Co. Safety Council, which is also providing grant funds for a visual skin check by Dr. Thomas Rak and an ABI (Ankle Brachial Index) by Springfield Heart Surgeons.

While admission and information, screenings and evaluations are all free, the H1N1/seasonal combined flu vaccine being offered by The Medicine Shoppe has a fee and most insurance plans are accepted.

“The CRSI Wellness Committee is honored to bring this type of free service to the community. Each year we enjoy a high participation rate from locally familiar, quality resources, as well as a great turn-out by the general public, seeking information and services,” said Sandy Loffing, CRSI project chair.

Don’t let unforeseen vehicle woes cause undo stress in the coming months. Tim’s Towing is again offering a free AAA drive-through, seven-step auto maintenance inspection. He will be located in the front parking lot of CRSI, accessed from Scioto Street.

In addition to many vendor door prizes, CRSI is offering a grand prize drawing for a $500 Visa gift card and other prizes, just for registering.

The One Stop Health Fair is located inside the CRSI annex building accessed from East U.S. Route 36, directly behind the main office complex that faces Scioto Street. Hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 9 only. Additional parking is being made available by Trenor Motors.
