Mechanicsburg hires teachers

MECHANICSBURG – Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools will have some new teachers for the current school year.

The school board approved hiring four teachers on one-year contracts for the 2015-16 school year at its Thursday meeting. They are High School Art Teacher Stephen Magyar, Intervention Specialist Lori Lee, Fifth Grade Math teacher Corey Mays, and High School Math teacher Kali McDonald.

In other action, the board:

•Approved minutes and financial statements.

•Approved the School Employees Retirement System (SERS) of Ohio Employer Pick-Up Plan.

•Discussed for first reading the updated Athletic Handbook.

•Approved the updated Emergency Management Plan for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved a school proclamation that Sept. 17, 2015, will be officially recognized by Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools as the 228th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention.

•Approved the 2015-16 High School Curriculum Guide.

•Approved advancing Jerry Henry on the salary schedule to Master +15.

•Approved substitutes for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved Middle School Football Assistant Coach/Athletic Director Coby Wilhelm, Middle School Cheer Advisor Basketball/Football Erin Durand, High School Football Assistant Coach Shane Cahill, High School Girls Basketball Head Coach Christie Dodane, Girls Soccer Assistant Coach Amanda Wade, and Fall Weight Room Supervisor Kurt Forrest, all for the 2015-16 school year.

•Approved High School Volleyball Assistant Coach (volunteer) Amanda Brown, for the 2015-16 school year.
