St. Paul AME Church hosts The Gospel Prophets

The Rev. Michael Menefield, members of St. Paul AME Church, 316 E. Market St., and special member Kimberly Gordon Brooks will host The Gospel Prophets of the early 1970s in concert at 4 p.m. on May 29.

The concert is in honor of former Congressman Clarence (Bud) Brown and his wife, Joyce. They hosted The Gospel Prophets, under the leadership of Jean E. Gordon, in their home in Washington, D.C. While visiting with the Browns the choir sang at several locations in the area. The choir also performed in Indiana, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

On May 29, the choir will be directed by Kimberly Gordon Brooks, daughter of Jean and Rev. Dr. Richard E. Gordon Sr., both deceased.

Charles Brown, who accompanied the choir in the earlier times, will again be pianist for the Gospel Prophets. The singers of the choir included people from the families of Adams, Crosswhite, Edley, Fields, Gordon, Hill, Holmes, Honore, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Ladd, Manuel, McDonald, Porter, Portis, Robinson, Rogan, Shannon, Stillgess, Thomas, Underwood and White.
