The second of two people charged for drug possession earlier this year was sent to prison this week.

Jason M. Karg, 35, was sentenced to prison for 22 months Tuesday for three felony drug possession charges stemming from a Jan. 23 incident.

On that date day-shift officers from the Urbana Police Division chased Karg, who had multiple outstanding warrants on him. The on-foot pursuit began after an officer observed Karg in the 600 block of Scioto Street and called for on-duty units to assist in getting him into custody.

As officers converged on the area, Karg ran back to his residence at 667 E. Court St. While searching for Karg at the residence, officers observed evidence of drug abuse.

As a result of a search warrant, police recovered evidence of cocaine, heroin, prescription medications Suboxone, Oxycodone and Trazodone, as well as marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

During their search, police found Amanda M. Harvel, also known as Amanda Neer, who had active outstanding warrants for a pending arrest. She was also under community control sanctions from the Champaign County Common Pleas Court for a 2014 criminal case for possession of heroin.

Karg was indicted on multiple drug-related counts in February before he pleaded guilty to fifth degree felony charges of possession of heroin, possession of cocaine and possession of drugs on March 7.

In addition to the prison sentence, Karg received a six-month driver’s license suspension. Upon his release, Karg is subject to post release control for a period of up to three years.

Harvel was indicted on multiple drug counts in February before pleading guilty to possession of heroin and possession of cocaine on Feb. 24.

During a sentencing hearing held on the same date, Harvel’s community control was revoked, leading to a total 30-month prison sentence. In addition to the prison sentence, Harvel was fined $250 and received six month driver’s license suspension.

Upon her release, Harvel is subject to post release control for up to three years.
