WOODSTOCK – Jody Riegler became the newest Village Council member after being sworn in during the March 14 meeting by Mayor Jackie Hayes.

Riegler, who has lived in the village for the past four years with her husband, Michael, will serve the remainder of former council member Tony Groves’ elected term, which expires Dec. 31, 2017. Groves resigned last month after stating he was moving from the village.

The mother of a 3-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy, Riegler said she joined council in hopes of helping make the village more inviting for young families.

“I think I bring a younger point of view to council, and I would like to help make the village more family-friendly,” she said. “I hope to be able to bring in grants to help build up the ball park area so it can be utilized more. I would also like to find a way to utilize this place (municipal building) more.”

Also during the meeting, Hayes addressed growing concerns the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has with possible illegal activity at Woodstock Ball Park.

Hayes said she was asked if there are security cameras at the ball park, to which she replied, “My understanding is there are some (cameras) over there, but they don’t work.”

Over the next few weeks, Hayes said, she plans to work with village maintenance worker Ron Moore to get quotes for the installation of cameras at the ball park.

“We are going to look into it, and we are going to put cameras in the ball park,” she added.

In a related matter, Hayes informed council that used needles have been found throughout the village, not just at the ball park.

“It could be people are just throwing them out the window because some have been found on the streets,” she said.

In other business:

•Village Administrator Bradley Herron expressed interest in putting together information for new residents that would be posted on the village’s website at www.woodstockohio.org.

•Herron informed council he is looking into the possibility of purchasing a new wooden flag pole to replace the current flag pole located inside the Woodstock Municipal Building.

•Any residents experiencing issues with their sanitary sewer lines are advised to contact Herron or Moore by calling the village office at 937-826-3024.
