City administration is gearing up for the spring season by recommending Urbana City Council, during its 6 p.m. meeting today in municipal court chambers, approve the purchase of a new pickup truck and several pieces of outdoor power equipment.
The two highest-priced items on the agenda for approval – a Ford F-250 pickup truck and John Deere 328E skid steer loader – are both for use at the city’s Water Reclamation Facility.
Administration will recommend the pickup truck be purchased from White’s Ford at a cost of $26,858 without trade-in. The WRF’s current Ford F-150 would then be transferred to the city’s Parks and Recreation Division.
The administration recommends the skid loader be purchased from Koenig Equipment at a cost of $48,303.55 without trade-in. The plan is for the current skid loader to be sold on GovDeals.com. City officials estimate it could bring in approximately $18,000.
In preparation for the upcoming mowing season, council will be asked to sign off on the purchase of three Snapper zero-turn mowers – two for the Parks & Recreation Division and one for the WRF – at a total cost of $9,300 with trade-in from East Lawn & Garden.
Administration will also request a 15-foot batwing mower for use at Grimes Field be purchased from Lantz Sales and Service at a cost of $9,995 with trade-in.
Resolutions, ordinances
The lone legislative measure scheduled to be voted on by council following a third and final reading involves a resolution authorizing Director of Administration Kerry Brugger to submit an application to participate in the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program.
Brugger said during the first and second readings of the resolution that if the city were to be awarded the grant, the funds would be used to extend taxiway C at Grimes Field.
A resolution authorizing Mayor Bill Bean or his designated representative to apply to the Champaign County Commission to take part in the fiscal year 2016 Community Development Block Grant Community Development Program will undergo a second reading, while council will hear the first reading of a resolution authorizing Brugger to submit an application to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources under the Round 23 Natureworks Program for park improvements.
The following ordinances will be presented to council for the first time:
•An ordinance to amend chapter 963 of the city’s codified ordinances to establish a board to oversee operations at Oak Dale Cemetery.
•An ordinance to provide a statement of services in territory to be annexed (638 Childrens Home Road), approve an annexation agreement with Urbana Township, and authorize Brugger to sign the agreement on behalf of the city.
