MECHANICSBURG – Playing in a driving rain most of the game, Mechanicsburg was able to knock off West Jefferson, 18-7, in OHC football Friday night.

The Indians took the opening kickoff and marched down the field on a series of running plays, the drive culminating on Conley Bogard’s three-yard TD scamper.

Bogard and fellow QB Conner Eyink alternated plays on the drive.

Bogard came up short on a two-point conversion run, and the Indians led, 6-0.

The score remained 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, West Jeff scored on an Austin Buescher touchdown pass to take a 7-6 lead.

Late in the second quarter, a 30-yard pass from Bogard to Chris Ritchie gave the Indians a first down at the WJ 2, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Mechanicsburg moments later moved it back to the 17.

Bogard then connected with Ritchie on a touchdown pass to make it 12-7.

The first half ended with the Indians on top, 12-7.

Rain started coming down hard late in the third quarter, which led to WJ’s punter dropping the ball and recovering it at his own 33.

Moments later, Bogard hooked up with Austin Haynes on a 15-yard touchdown pass to make it 18-7.

The third quarter ended with the Indians up by 11 points and the fourth quarter was scoreless.
