TROY – The West Liberty-Salem boys cross country team finished second in the Scarlet Race at the Troy Twilight Invitational on Saturday.

Mason was first with 64 points and WL-S had 153.

Top placers for the Tigers were Caleb Larson 11th 16:01.1, Asher Cole 12th 16:01.3, Dylan King 32nd 16:30.8, Asher Knox 47th 16:45.8, Brayan Gullett 55th 16:50.8 and Troy Bradley 82nd 17:11.1.

“Finishing second behind only Division I top 10 state ranked Mason is pretty special,” said WL-S Coach Mike Louden. “We came into the meet looking for a top 4 or 5 finish, so to finish second is very satisfying. The extremely dry and dusty conditions coupled with the large race sizes made navigating the course extremely tough, so to finish 2nd in those conditions is pleasing.”

Top placers for the Tigers in the jayvee Gray race were Gauge Lee 107th 19:39.1, Zeke Sidders 144th 20:01.4 and Tanner Myers 238th 21:07.6.

The West Liberty-Salem Girls Big Orange Cross Country Team competed Saturday night at the Troy Twilight Invitational. The girls qualified to race in the scarlet division which represents the most competitive teams in all divisions as well as outstanding individuals.

The WL-S girls team placed 11th out of 32 teams in the Scarlet at Troy.

Top finishers for the Tigers were Malia Miller 11th (19:23), Addi Wallen 18th (19:41), Gwen McCullough 56th (20:38), Isla Leichty 62nd (20:40), Mariska Smith 254th (23:11) and Ivy Matthews 299th (24:08).

“Although night meets have a great atmosphere, they do present unique problems in preparation and racing,” said WL-S Coach Aaron Lauck. “Our race was highly competitive showcasing many state-ranked teams from all divisions. I am pleased with how the girls prepared, overcame adversity and performed.”
