During the recent Antiques Appraisal Fair at the Champaign County Historical Society, a $50 prize was given to the person submitting the most expensive item for appraisal. Nancy Parker won the prize for bringing in a folk art painting which had been displayed in her parents’ home for years. Appraiser Dan Fawcett dated the painting to approximately 1866 and valued it at $3,500.

The prize of $50 for the oldest item submitted was won by Dan and Allison Cox. The appraiser, Greg Shipley, identified the item as a mammoth or mastodon fossilized bone, most likely from a vertebrate. The age is approximately 10,000 years old and no value was given. They were advised to take it to The Ohio State University for further examination.
