The Urbana Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Champaign County Community Center Auditorium, Urbana, Ohio. Regent Snyder called the Constitution Day meeting to order. She welcomed 16 members and one associate member. Regent Snyder conducted the DAR opening ritual. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Charlotte Roby and the American’s Creed was led by Connie Flanly. The National Anthem was then led by Janet Ebert. Regent Snyder read the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America.

President General’s Report: Linda Fullerton gave the report from President General Denise Doring VanBuren. The President General asked members to look at their annual Chapter Achievement Awards as a guide. The primary sections of the form are Membership, Service/Training, and Contributions. In closing, she reflected on the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2021. She thanked the Gold and Blue Star families whose loved ones have so valiantly worn the uniform of our nation during the last two decades. Of special note is the fact that President General VanBuren is the first Blue Star Mother to also serve as DAR President General.

National Defense Report: This report was given by Pat Detwiler. Patriot Day on September 11th honors the memory of nearly 3,000 innocent victims who died 20 years ago on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Each year Americans dedicate this day to remembering those who died and to the first responders who risked their own lives to save others. May we never forget!

A most interesting presentation was given by members of the Constitution Day Committee, which consisted of Judi Henson, Judy Brooks, Connie Flanly, and Becky Shultz. Pat Detwiler gave a quiz related to the Constitution and Lana Seeberg offered a Constitution Day prayer.

Regent’s Report: Regent Snyder gave a complete report on the recent Fall Fun Fair of August 20, 2021. Ohio was honored to have President General Denise Doring VanBuren in attendance. Regent Snyder made available to those in attendance a promotional video of the Christian Waldschmidt House, which was shown at the Fall Fun Fair event. The Urbana Chapter will be participating in the Simon Kenton Hoopla Parade and Chili Festival on September 25, 2021. In addition, the chapter will be a part of the annual Octoberfest on October 3, at the Historical Society Museum property. Regent Snyder concluded with a reminder to members to continue to be vigilant as the COVID-19 pandemic remains an uncertainty.

Vice Regent’s Report: Linda Fullerton presented detailed information on a worthwhile Day of Service project for this fall. It would involve making Feminine Hygiene Products available for local high schools. Discussion will continue at upcoming meetings. In addition, she announced that invitations for participation in the Patriots of the American Revolution DAR High School Essay Contest have been extended to all five high schools in Champaign County.

At this time, there are approximately 1,718 veterans buried at Oak Dale Cemetery, and we strive to honor as many of these veterans as possible.
