Harness racing at the fair set for Aug. 7-9

Harness racing has always been an Ohio county fair tradition.

Ohio Standardbreds are important to Ohio agriculture, too.

Did you know Ohio leads the nation in raising Standardbred harness race horses?

Ohio also has the largest audience for harness racing, entertaining fans at four pari-mutuel racetracks and 67 Ohio county fairs, including the Champaign County Fair.

The Champaign County Fair will be hosting harness racing Aug. 7-9 with a 6:30 p.m. post time all three dates.

Eight divisions of Ohio 2-and 3-year-olds will race for over $50,000 in purse money.

On Tuesday, there will be additional special stake races for 2-year-old pacers and trotters going for $15,000 each as part of the Buckeye Stallion Series. Two signature memorial races are also on the schedule.

Wednesday is the Dick Buxton Trot with an estimated purse of $10,000 and Thursday night will be the Bob Seabrook Pace.

Fans are encouraged to visit the Racing with the Stars tent, sponsored by the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, for interactive activities throughout the evenings on Aug. 8-9.

You can participate in the Racing with the Stars Fan Contest for a chance to win a prize package that includes a $25 Kroger gift certificate and join the winner’s circle for a photo. Come spin the trivia wheel each evening to answer questions and participate in text trivia to win prizes. The tent will be open at the start of the first race until the last race.
