If you are scratching your head about ideas for things to do this Earth Day, stop scratching! Cedar Bog Nature Preserve will be offering a nature-focused art show and free admission all day, and free naturalist-led tours will also be available on the hour every hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
See artists with unique wares, earth friendly information and the beginning of the blooming season at Cedar Bog. The ninth annual Earth Day Art Fest will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Cedar Bog’s Education Center.
To start the Earth Day Art Fest off, a “Walk/Run/Bike to the Bog” tour will be held from 7:30-10 a.m. that day. Cost is $10 per person or $25 per family if you register before April 19. Add $5 to the registration cost after April 19. This family-friendly tour event will take place on the Simon Kenton Bike Path that borders the Cedar Bog Nature Preserve. This eight-mile round-trip journey will pass The Depot Coffeehouse in Urbana and return back to Cedar Bog, where you can then enjoy the Earth Day Art Show festivities and free admission on the boardwalk. All proceeds from this event will support offsetting expenses for area children to attend field trips to Cedar Bog. So start your day off right by joining our “Walk/Run/Bike to the Bog” and support area schools at the same time.
In addition to the Earth Day festivities, Cedar Bog Nature Preserve will hold its regular Second Saturday program with Jeff Davis on “Snakes, Herpetology” at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8 at the Cedar Bog Education Center. Admission fees for the April 8 program are $10 per person or $5 for Ohio History Connection (OHC) members, Cedar Bog Association (CBA) members or children aged 6-12 years old. Children 5 and under are free.
A Spring Bloomers Walk will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, with walks led by Cedar Bog Volunteer Naturalists Cheryl Erwin and Jill Michael. The cost to join the walks are $5 for adults and $4 for OHC & CBA members and children.
