UU’s Beck, Dunlap voted All-MEC first team

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Urbana University’s Mikaela Beck and Katlynn Dunlap were each selected to the 2016 All-Mountain East Conference First Team as the league announced its annual awards on Wednesday. UU’s Alyssa Myers was voted to the all-freshman team.

Beck, a senior transfer outside hitter from Detroit, Michigan, is one of three players in the MEC to record over 500 points this season. She finished third in the league for kills (3.69/set), points (4.15/set), and ninth in service aces (39 – 0.31/set). Beck posted 14 double-doubles on the year while posting single-match highs of 24 kills (Oct. 18 vs. Lake Erie) and 17 digs (Oct. 4 vs. Notre Dame).

Dunlap, a junior outside hitter from Zoarville, Ohio, earned first-team all-conference honors for the second straight year following another dominant season. She finished fifth in the conference in points (3.51/set) and kills (3.14), and is nearing the 1,200 kill mark for her career, where she currently ranks fourth among UU all-time leaders (1,178). Dunlap recorded a team-high 16 double-doubles with single-match bests of 20 kills (Oct. 4 vs. Notre Dame) and 30 digs (Oct. 28 vs. Shepherd).

Myers, a freshman setter from Whitehall, Michigan, appeared as one of seven MEC student-athletes on the all-freshman squad. She dished out the second-most assists (9.85/set) in the league while serving up the 13th-most aces (34 – 0.29/set). She recorded a season-high 53 assists on Oct. 28 against Shepherd, and totaled four double-doubles on the year.

In addition to the individual awards, Wheeling Jesuit had three first team selections, followed by UU with two.
